On June 23 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chairman of Sinochem Group Liu Deshu and Solvay CEO Jean-Pierre Clamadieu signed a cooperation agreement on proposed specialty chemicals. The two sides will promote eco-friendly production techniques of epichlorohydrin (ECH), an epoxy precursor, via glycerol. At the invitation of the Belgian government, King Philippe of Belgium and China's President Xi Jinping, among other distinguished guests, witnessed the signing of the deal.
Yangnong Chemical, a subsidiary of Sinochem International, and Vinythai, a subsidiary of Solvay, both own facilities to produce ECH via glycerol with independent intellectual property rights. The strong alliance will allow the two sides to further raise their positions in the industry, advance the sustainable development of green ECH production techniques in China and greatly reduce the enormous pressure on the environment posed by backward production processes.
